Connecting the Metropolitan Ring Road and Eastern Freeway, completing a ring road around Melbourne.
The project includes building twin 6.5 km tunnels, completing the Ring Road in Greensborough, overhauling the Eastern Freeway, building Melbourne’s first dedicated busway and the North East Trail providing kilometres of walking and cycling paths. The project interfaces with the Hurstbridge rail corridor including the rail tunnel beneath Greensborough Highway which will be extended to make room for North East Link and will involve track, signalling and equipment upgrades between Heidelberg and Greensborough stations to enable the rail tunnel extension.
