Chief Executive Officer
With 25+ years of rail infrastructure experience, Navjot excels in managing complex projects. He brings extensive experience in project leadership, contract management, multi-disciplinary engineering teams management, project scope development, technical and commercial bids evaluation, project health checks and operational readiness planning for greenfield and brownfield rail projects.
Navjot leads IRE and its experienced team of rail specialist project managers, engineers, technical advisors, commercial managers and field based personnel providing services across Australia.
John Auguste
Chief Operating Officer
John is an accomplished senior executive with over 20 years of experience in complex infrastructure projects in the UK and Australia. A trusted manager with a history of successfully developing high performing teams, John has extensive experience in leading projects as well as functional groups driving organisational efficiency. John excels in leadership, implementing change effectively and creating a culture of continuous improvement.
Andrew Howey
Chief Strategy Officer
With over 20 years of experience in transportation across Australia and New Zealand, Andrew excels in complex rail projects. He has extensive experience in project leadership, contract management, and testing and commissioning in rail systems, rollingstock and infrastructure projects.
His varying roles have given him experience in leading projects delivered under Alliance, Design and Construct, and Public Private Partnership models. His full project lifecycle experience across a range of projects includes leading projects from tendering through mobilisation, design, delivery, testing and commissioning into operations and maintenance.
Simi Chhabra
Chief Finance Officer
With an MBA in Finance, Simi has been responsible for overseeing financial operations and strategies, and managing financial resources, including budgeting, financial planning, and accounting to achieve the company’s financial goals in collaboration with the management team.
In addition to financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and providing financial insights to guide business decisions, Simi has guided the company in areas such as business operations, administration, processes and systems.
John Scaife
Head of Engineering
As the Head of Engineering of IRE, John offers over 20 years of experience in multi-disciplinary engineering and design management, value engineering, issues management and trouble shooting. His subject matter expertise in track engineering extends to complex mixed gauge and dual gauge turnouts.
He has authored various technical standards, specifications, engineering reports and papers and has been pivotal in the success of many rail projects.
James Gerrard
General Manager,
Victoria
James has 25+ years of expertise in rail systems, rolling stock and infrastructure projects. He’s been a project leader in Australian rail since 2011. Prior to joining IRE, he led Bombardier Transportation’s projects in Australia and New Zealand. James has also worked on a diverse range of heavy and light rail projects internationally including the UK, France, Turkey, Bulgaria, and South Africa.
James excels in project delivery, organisational strategy and managing complex projects in challenging environments.
John Portwood
General Manager, Queensland
John brings 32 years of rail industry experience to our team. His career began in the UK, where he developed expertise in planning and delivering complex rail projects.
Since moving to Brisbane in 2006, John has led early-stage development projects, strategic assessments, and feasibility studies, demonstrating his adeptness in stakeholder engagement.
With a proven track record in managing engineering teams, design management, commissioning, advisory services, change control, verification, and operational readiness, John is a significant asset to our Queensland clients and operations.
Babu Kumar

New South Wales
Babu is a seasoned professional with a proven track record in project assurance and governance. He’s adept at handling diverse project types, including PPP, MC, D&C and collaborative contracts like Alliances and ECI.
His accomplishments include successfully delivering complex rail projects, managing rail systems teams, and excelling in contract negotiations, governance, risk management, and stakeholder engagement.
Susan Doyle
Proposals Manager
From a civil construction background in proposals and marketing, Sue plays a pivotal role in overseeing and coordinating the creation and submission of tenders, collaborating with management and other team members.
In consultation with clients, she is responsible for developing comprehensive and competitive proposals that meet requirements, ensuring they are well-organised, compliant with guidelines, and effectively convey the organisation’s capabilities and solutions.
Mae Vuong
Business Organisation Manager
Mae is an experienced people-focussed operations manager, having previously managed multi-disciplinary teams across compliance and corporate governance, ICT, business support, accounts and finance, events, marketing and communications.
Mae has a broad understanding across all business operations and brings her skills to optimise back-office functions, business systems and processes. Her compass forever points towards smarter, more efficient ways of working.
